President Trump commemorated the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks with remarks at the Pentagon on Friday, choosing not to attend the Ground Zero ceremony in his native New York, which he last visited in 2024.
The National September 11 Memorial and Museum has barred politicians from speaking there since 2012 to remain nonpartisan, and Trump reportedly wanted to deliver a speech, prompting the shift to the Pentagon.
Vice President JD Vance attended the New York ceremony instead, while other administration officials traveled to the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Trump had issued a proclamation marking the day "Patriot Day 2026." Former Presidents Bush, Clinton, Obama, and Biden were expected at Ground Zero, honoring nearly 3,000 lives lost.
