🪐 Scientists Discover a Mysterious 10-Sided Atmospheric Wave on Saturn

Scientists have detected a strange 10-sided atmospheric wave near Saturn’s south pole. Previously, researchers knew about the planet’s famous six-sided storm at the north pole, but this newly identified structure is the first known 10-sided atmospheric pattern on Saturn.

The discovery began in 2024 when former Australian miner and amateur astronomer Trevor Barry noticed an unusual ripple while observing Saturn from his backyard. Later, scientists analyzed long-term observations from the Hubble Space Telescope and confirmed the remarkable atmospheric feature.

Researchers believe this discovery could help explain how powerful storms and atmospheric waves move across Saturn. It may also provide new clues about the planet’s complex weather system.
