A helicopter that went down Tuesday evening in Chatsworth has been identified as NBC4's NewsChopper4, according to station reporting. The aircraft crashed just before 7 p.m. on the 9100 block of North Mason Avenue, going down between two commercial buildings, per the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The helicopter went down in the San Fernando Valley near the scene of a deadly Metro bus crash, landing on top of shipping containers and several parked vehicles near Nordhoff Street and De Soto Avenue.
Several television news helicopters had been in the area covering the earlier bus collision when the crash occurred. Firefighters battled a large fire sparked by the wreckage, and a canopy was placed over one body after the flames were extinguished.
The cause of the crash remains unclear, and authorities have not released further details on casualties among the crew. This remains a developing story.
