Miranda Hart Opens Up on Decades-Long Health Battle Ahead of Celebrity

Ahead of The Celebrity Traitors' second series, which returns to BBC screens on October 1, comedian and actress Miranda Hart has revealed the "terrifying" rare health condition that once left her unable to leave her home for months at a time.

In her autobiography, "I Haven't Been Entirely Honest With You," Hart detailed a decades-long struggle with chronic fatigue after contracting a tick-borne illness as a teenager while living in Virginia, USA. She was later diagnosed with myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME), also known as chronic fatigue syndrome, before receiving a Lyme disease diagnosis in 2020.

Hart described being "basically bed-bound and house-bound," with periods so severe she couldn't even pick up a glass of water. Despite the long, undiagnosed battle, she called the eventual diagnosis "a relief" after years of living what she described as a "half-life." Hart now joins 21 celebrities competing in the Scottish Highlands castle series.
