Patriots' Backups Stumble Again as Browns Cruise to 37-13 Preseason Finale Win

The New England Patriots wrapped up their preseason with a rough outing in Cleveland, falling 37-13 to the Browns on Thursday night, a game in which New England's second- and third-string players struggled on both sides of the ball. The Browns scored on their first five drives and didn't punt until the third quarter, putting the Patriots' defensive depth firmly in question.

Cleveland's offense was directed by Dillon Gabriel, who threw three touchdown passes, two of them to Luke Floriea, while Taylen Green later engineered a 98-yard scoring drive after taking over in the second half. Gabriel finished 12-of-15 for 186 yards with a 157.9 passer rating, strengthening his case for a roster spot as Cleveland's potential third quarterback.

On the Patriots' side, there were flashes of promise. Second-year receiver Kyle Williams caught two passes for 55 yards on the opening drive, including a 45-yard touchdown, and notched a touchdown catch in each of New England's three preseason games. Quarterback Behren Morton took the bulk of the snaps, finishing 18-of-28 for 123 yards with two interceptions, while linebacker Namdi Obiazor recorded 12 tackles.

With the preseason now behind them, the Patriots turn their attention to Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks, still searching for answers on defensive depth before the games start counting.
