Dolly Parton, Country Music's Beloved "Queen," Dies at 80 After Secret Battle With Cancer

Dolly Parton, the singer-songwriter, actress and philanthropist whose six-decade career made her one of America's most beloved entertainers, has died at 80. Her nephew, Bryan Seaver, first shared the news that she died peacefully in Nashville, and her estate later confirmed Parton died after bravely facing a brief battle with cancer, passing at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center surrounded by loved ones.

According to reports, the singer was admitted to the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center on Friday, August 21, and died four days later, though the type of cancer was not revealed. Parton had not publicly disclosed a cancer diagnosis, but she had spoken about "health challenges" that forced her to cancel her Las Vegas residency shows back in September 2025. At Dollywood's season opener in March, she also referenced ongoing "health issues."

At her request, her funeral will be small, private and intimate, held for immediate family. Tributes have poured in from across the world, with fellow stars and public figures celebrating her impact as a musician, actress, philanthropist and businesswoman who was beloved across the political spectrum. Her legacy includes decades of chart-topping hits, her Dollywood theme park, and the Imagination Library, which has donated hundreds of millions of books to children worldwide.

Fans gathered at her Hollywood Walk of Fame star to leave flowers and tributes, marking the end of an era for country music and American pop culture.
