PGA Tour Unveils Major 2028 Overhaul With Relegation, Promotion and Match Play
The PGA Tour announced a sweeping restructuring of its schedule starting in 2028, introducing a two-tiered competitive system.
The new Championship Series will serve as the top tier, featuring 23-24 events, purses of at least $20 million, and fields averaging 120 players.
Below it, the Challenger Series will offer at least 20 events with $4 million purses, acting as the main pathway to promotion.
A relegation-promotion system will determine movement between tiers, while match play and rotating Tour Championship venues add further changes to golf's biggest circuit.
