Mokwena's Pyramids Stumble Ahead of Champions League Test
Rulani Mokwena's rebuilding project at Pyramids FC hit a bump as the Egyptian giants suffered a 1-0 defeat to Al Masry, denting confidence just days before their CAF Champions League opener.
The result comes at an inconvenient time, with Pyramids set to begin their continental title defence against Kenyan side Gor Mahia in the preliminary round, first leg scheduled for September 4-6 in Nairobi.
Mokwena, who took charge in July after a turbulent run through North African football, has endured a mixed start at the Cairo club, alternating between promising performances and costly lapses. With Pyramids still holders of the 2024/25 CAF Champions League crown, pressure is mounting on the South African tactician to sharpen his side quickly and avoid an early continental setback against a determined Gor Mahia outfit.
