FTC Expands Amazon Prime Refunds, Raises Cap to $200 for Eligible Customers
The FTC has announced that Amazon will accelerate and expand payments under its $2.5 billion settlement, raising the maximum refund per consumer from $51 to $200. A federal court approved a joint motion from the FTC and Amazon to speed up and widen future redress payments this week.
The settlement stems from FTC allegations that Amazon enrolled millions of consumers in Prime without consent and made cancellation difficult. Under the revised order, customers who used between 11 and 20 Prime benefits in a 12-month period are now newly eligible, with automatic payments beginning October 1, 2026, via PayPal, Venmo, or mailed check.
Customers who already received earlier refunds may qualify for an additional $149, bringing their total to $200. No claims, forms, or notices are required. As of September 2026, Amazon has issued more than $845 million of the $1.5 billion redress fund.
