Fears of All-Out War Grow as US and Iran Trade Heaviest Strikes Since July
Tensions in the Middle East escalated sharply this week after the United States and Iran exchanged their most intense military strikes since July, breaking a month-long lull in hostilities.
The US military said it struck Iranian air defenses, radar systems, maritime assets, mine-laying capabilities and communications sites. Iran reported hits on multiple targets near the Strait of Hormuz in response.
Iran accused Washington of striking a wedding party, with its health minister later reporting 18 people killed and 108 injured in the latest wave of attacks.
A US Central Command spokesperson denied targeting civilians, blaming Iranian state media for the reports.
With Washington threatening further action and residents in southern Iran describing daily fear of new strikes, concerns are mounting that the fragile ceasefire could collapse into full-scale war, further destabilizing the region and global energy markets.
