A Quarter-Century of Remembrance: America Honors 9/11 Victims on 25th Anniversary
Twenty-five years after hijacked planes struck the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, America marked the largest wave of 9/11 remembrance since the attacks themselves on Friday.
At Ground Zero, family members read aloud the names of the 2,983 victims, observing seven moments of silence — including a new one honoring those who died from 9/11-related illnesses. Ceremonies also took place at the Pentagon and Flight 93 National Memorial.
The milestone anniversary drew heavier security and larger crowds than usual, alongside political tensions after some New York figures suggested Mayor Zohran Mamdani stay away from events. Schools nationwide used the day to teach a generation with no living memory of the attacks.
