Xabi Alonso’s Chelsea Show Promise Despite Defensive Concerns ⚽
Xabi Alonso began his Chelsea reign with an exciting 3–2 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage, offering an early glimpse of an attacking team that could be entertaining to watch. Chelsea looked dangerous in the final third, with Cole Palmer, João Pedro and Morgan Rogers showing promising attacking chemistry.
However, the victory also exposed some familiar weaknesses. Chelsea struggled at times to control midfield, while defensive mistakes and goalkeeper Robert Sánchez’s positioning created unnecessary pressure. Fulham found the net twice and had opportunities to equalise late in the match.
Alonso’s approach already looks different, with quicker transitions and a more aggressive style compared with the previous possession-focused system. The team still needs time to fully understand his tactics, but the early signs are encouraging.
Do you think Xabi Alonso can turn this exciting Chelsea side into a serious Premier League title contender? ⚽
